Welcome to My Personal Page
My name is Ryley Hernandez and I'd like to personally thank you for supporting Team Ryley. This our 14th year participating in Sharon’s Walk. Each year we are extremely grateful for all the support that Team Ryley receives from our family, friends, neighbors, and colleagues. I am always amazed at how much support we receive each year for an organization that means so much to me.
I experienced my first seizure on the morning of July 4, 2002 just before leaving to our lake house to celebrate America's Independence Day. That first seizure and many of the others that followed lasted for 45 minutes. I continued to have seizures throughout my elementary school years. Through the support of the Epilepsy Foundation and my amazing Pediatric Neurologist (Dr. Nespeca) I was able to eventually control my seizures with medication and learned that Epilepsy wasn’t something to be assumed of. I haven't had a seizure since fourth grade and I have been off medication since my freshman year of high school.
Looking back at the years I struggled with frequent seizures and the side effects that came with my medication, I have come to realize that Epilepsy has given me the strength to take on life challenges and to be confident of who I am. Epilepsy has also provided me with a direction in life as today I am a junior at St Mary's College preparing to take my MCAT exam and continue down the path of attending medical school to become a Pediatric Neurologist just like Dr. Nespeca.
